Elaine grew up on a 500-acre ranch in east Texas. She has an artistic and playful approach to psychotherapy. She is an artist, poet, and writer. She earned her undergraduate degree in English Literature and a Specialization in Creative Writing and a Minor in Studio Art from Southern Methodist University. She earned a Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from University of North Texas at Dallas.
As an artist, she has experienced firsthand the power of creative expression in clarifying emotions and unveiling new perspectives. She loves to work with people of all ages to process big feelings through creating art. Along with expressive art therapy, she also loves play therapy. Play therapy can be an effective method of communication in the therapy room. When we think of play, we often associate it with children. But why should they have all the fun? Play isn’t just child’s play; it’s a powerful, universal language and a fundamental part of human nature, regardless of our age.
Elaine has worked with people of all ages, including children, adolescents, adults, group art therapy for female veterans, art therapy for teachers, inpatient clients at the Seay Center in Plano, outpatient IOP and PHP settings, and as a public health researcher to prevent suicide on college campuses. She has certificates in Nonviolent Crisis Prevention & Intervention Training (CPI), Trauma-Informed Care Training, QPR Suicide Prevention Gatekeeper Certificate, Cognitive Behavioral Intervention for Trauma in Schools (CBITS), Skills for Psychological Recovery, and Psychological First Aid Online.
